Postado em O que rola lá fora

AFP

Andy Roddick has expressed his dissatisfaction with the timing of the final two tournaments of the 2010 ATP season.

The American world number eight, beaten in straight sets by Robin Soderling in the Paris Masters quarter-finals here on Friday, has five days off before he has to report for duty prior to the ATP World Tour Finals in London.

It means the former world number one will be in London for four days before the season finale at the 02 Arena begins, and he says he would prefer a smaller gap between the two events.

Roger, over and out?

Postado em O que rola lá fora

The Sydney Morning Herald

ROGER FEDERER is no longer The Man, a title which will officially be bestowed upon Rafael Nadal when he takes out the Australian Open next year to extend the chasm between himself and the rest of tennis world and ensure the aura that once belonged to The Fed is dead.

Discuss.

”Life changes,” says former great Mats Wilander, who won three of his seven grand slam titles in Melbourne. ”[Federer] is not the same person that he was four years ago. He is obviously not as confident in winning tennis matches.

Faster courts make for more exciting tennis

Postado em O que rola lá fora

Edmonton Journal

A few years ago, when men’s tennis threatened to become an unwatchable ace fest, the response from the authorities was to slow down the courts.

It worked, to an extent, but it has now backfired.

The men’s game now has too often become a monotonous backcourt fest as the players continue to get even bigger and stronger, and the technology continues to progress — especially with the new strings.

The slighting of Serena Williams

Postado em O que rola lá fora

The Guardian

As the WTA season wrapped up with the championships at Doha recently, Caroline Wozniacki, a 20 year old from Denmark, ended the tour ranked No 1 in women’s tennis – largely thanks to her consistency in winning minor WTA events. For many, Serena Williams, though knocked off the top spot in the rankings and unable, through injury, to defend her 2009 Doha title, remains clearly the supreme player of her generation.

Tournament Strives to Put Some More Zip Into Game

Postado em O que rola lá fora

The New York Times

It was certainly not the dream ending from a French perspective. Gaël Monfils, low on energy and bright ideas, was beaten, 6-1, 7-6 (7-1), by Robin Soderling in the final of the BNP Paribas Masters on Sunday without procuring so much as one break point.

But the shot that created the ending — a forehand volley from Soderling on match point — was certainly what the French tournament director, Jean-François Caujolle, had in mind when he installed a faster court this year.
